In a significant milestone for both the maritime and energy industries, Rohe Solutions has successfully carried out the first-ever Bio-LNG bunkering in the Hamina LNG terminal. The operation, which took place on February 21st, was conducted in collaboration with E&S Tankers and the Hamina LNG terminal. Despite challenging weather conditions, including strong winds, the operation was executed smoothly and safely, thanks to the diligent efforts of all involved parties.

Rohe Solutions, a prominent provider of LNG and Bio-LNG services, has now made it possible for vessels to bunker entirely with Bio-LNG, produced from renewable sources. Bio-LNG, a methane-based fuel derived from renewable feedstocks, offers an alternative to traditional LNG, providing a more sustainable option for the shipping industry. The flexibility of blending Bio-LNG with LNG further reduces emissions while maintaining reasonable costs, making it a compelling choice for shipowners committed to reducing their environmental impact.

Joel Unha, Sales Manager at Rohe Solutions, commented on the achievement “This first Bio-LNG bunkering is a major milestone for Rohe. We are proud to offer renewable fuels for maritime operations and contribute to a more sustainable future by bringing Rohe’s Bio-LNG to the market.”

Bio-LNG: A Concrete Step Towards Reducing Emissions

The collaboration between Rohe Solutions and E&S Tankers exemplifies the growing importance of renewable fuels in the maritime industry. E&S Tankers opted for Bio-LNG to power their vessel John T. Essberger, marking a pivotal step towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions and meeting sustainability targets.

Daniel Karstens, Procurement Manager at E&S Tankers, remarked “We are pleased to have partnered with Rohe Solutions Oy for the first and successful Bio-LNG bunkering of our vessel, John T. Essberger. This marks a significant step in reducing GHG emissions and advancing our sustainable ambitions. Collaborations like this are essential in making renewable fuels more accessible to the entire industry, and we look forward to making further progress together!”

Bio-LNG Bunkering: A Smooth Process

From a technical perspective, bunkering Bio-LNG is virtually identical to bunkering traditional LNG. Rohe Solutions provides the bunkering service at the Hamina LNG terminal and several other Finnish ports, ensuring that vessels can receive Bio-LNG or LNG seamlessly without any disruptions to their operations.

Rohe’s ability to offer flexible LNG and Bio-LNG solutions across multiple ports in Finland ensures that the maritime sector has access to sustainable fuel options, contributing to the green transition in shipping. Rohe’s comprehensive services range from simple fuel delivery to complete turnkey LNG solutions, including Bio-LNG bunkering.

A Step Towards More Sustainable Shipping

Rohe Solutions is not only a key player in the supply of natural gas, LNG, biogas, and Bio-LNG but also a significant contributor to reducing the environmental impact of maritime transport. By enabling the bunkering of Bio-LNG, Rohe supports the industry’s shift towards greener alternatives, offering maritime operators a way to meet stricter emissions standards while maintaining cost efficiency.
