PRIO, a prominent player in Portugal’s energy landscape, has reached a significant milestone in its commitment to sustainability with the successful First Supply of ECO Bunkers B20 at the port of Aveiro. This initiative, undertaken in collaboration with Porto de Aveiro, underscores PRIO’s dedication to pioneering eco-friendly solutions within the maritime sector.
Telmo Ferreira, the visionary driving force behind PRIO’s Emerging Business and Shipping division, highlighted the company’s proactive response to the escalating demand for sustainable fuel alternatives. Recognizing the industry’s need for greener options, PRIO developed “ECO Bunkers,” a groundbreaking blend consisting of 20% renewable energy combined with top-grade marine diesel.
The recent delivery of 50 tonnes of B20 to Schulte & Bruns Nederland BV’s FWN SUN vessel marks a significant step forward in reducing carbon emissions. This supply has resulted in a remarkable reduction of 40 tonnes of CO2 and a staggering 87.8% decrease in greenhouse gases compared to traditional fossil fuels. Notably, this achievement not only promotes sustainable shipping practices but also demonstrates a collective commitment to environmental stewardship.
Ferreira emphasized PRIO’s dedication to collaborative efforts aimed at minimizing carbon footprints within port operations, thus expediting the transition to cleaner energy sources.
