Preem Shipping has reached an agreement with the Swedish shipping company Sirius Shipping to charter two future-proof tankers on a time charter basis. These two new sister vessels, once delivered, will be the cornerstone of Preem’s next-generation transport system, ensuring safe and sustainable maritime transportation of renewable feedstock and finished products. The vessels promise a significantly lower environmental impact than previous generations.
“We look forward to taking delivery of the two sister ships, a further result of our long collaboration with Sirius Shipping. Preem has high ambitions to reduce its environmental impact and these two vessels will play an important role in our challenge to reach climate neutrality by 2035. By investing in new and modern tankers, Preem shows its commitment to sustainability and safety in shipping. At the same time, we support our customers in reaching their challenging goals,” stated Daniel Berndolf, head of the shipping department at Preem.
Preem employs a “just in time” approach for sea transportations, whereby ships adjust their speed to minimize anchoring time at refineries and ports. This practice contributes to lower fuel consumption, increased safety, and minimal environmental impact.
The two tankers will be long-term chartered by Preem, primarily for distributing finished products, but they will also supply refineries with renewable feedstock. These vessels will fly the Swedish flag with their home port in Donsö, Gothenburg archipelago, and are scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2026.
“The Sirius Evolution 15K vessels in Preem’s transport system will make a significant difference for both the environment and operational economics,” commented Jonas Backman, CEO of Sirius Shipping.
