OLT Offshore LNG Toscana ITALY Spot Auction

Livorno, Italy | October 6, 2025 – In a milestone move for Italy’s energy infrastructure and maritime fuel supply chain, OLT Offshore LNG Toscana (OLT) has officially launched the country’s first auction process for the allocation of Small Scale LNG (SSLNG) service slots. This marks a significant step toward diversifying the Italian LNG market and advancing the decarbonization of maritime and land transport sectors.

The newly published documentation, now available on the commercial section of OLT’s official website, opens the door for interested operators to participate in the inaugural SSLNG auction, scheduled for October 29, 2025. This is the first time such a competitive and structured allocation process for small-scale LNG services has been offered in Italy.

Auction Details: A Strategic Offering for LNG Operators

OLT will offer a package of 12 monthly SSLNG slots, each with a capacity of 7,500 liquid cubic meters, covering the period from November 2025 through November 2026. These slots enable the loading of LNG from OLT’s offshore terminal onto small-scale LNG carriers, positioning the infrastructure as a critical node in the evolving LNG bunkering and supply network across the Mediterranean.

Complementary Regasification Service on the Horizon

In addition to loading capabilities, OLT’s infrastructure has been designed to also receive LNG from small-scale carriers. This LNG can then be regasified and injected into the national grid, effectively making the terminal a two-way gateway for LNG. These “complementary slots” will be offered in future auctions, contingent upon the confirmation of available regasification capacity, and allocated on an infra-annual basis.

CEO Perspective: Driving the Future of Clean Marine Fuels

With the publication of small-scale capacity and the launch of the first dedicated auctions, OLT is taking a further step in the growth and diversification of the services it offers,” said Giovanni Giorgi, CEO of OLT Offshore LNG Toscana.

This initiative is a first for our country and will boost the development of the LNG supply chain in Italy. It promotes the use of fuels with a lower environmental impact, contributing meaningfully to the energy transition and the decarbonization of both maritime and land transport sectors,Giorgi added.

About OLT Offshore LNG Toscana and the FSRU Terminal

OLT Offshore LNG Toscana, jointly owned by Snam and Igneo Infrastructure Partners, operates the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) “Toscana”, a key infrastructure asset in Italy’s LNG landscape.

Moored approximately 22 kilometers off the coast between Livorno and Pisa, the terminal is connected to the national gas grid via a 36.5-kilometer pipeline, managed by Snam. This includes:

  • 29.5 km offshore,
  • 5 km within the floodway,
  • And 2 km onshore.

The FSRU Toscana boasts a maximum authorized regasification capacity of 5 billion Sm³ per year, contributing significantly to Italy’s gas security and energy diversification strategy.

A Milestone for Italy’s LNG and Bunkering Future

This auction marks not only a turning point for OLT but also for Italy’s broader commitment to cleaner fuels and flexible LNG infrastructure. As the maritime sector accelerates its transition to low-emission fuels, the launch of SSLNG services stands to position OLT—and by extension, Italy—as a pivotal player in the regional LNG bunkering ecosystem.

Operators interested in participating in the auction are encouraged to consult the full auction documentation on Offshore LNG Toscana’s website, and prepare bids ahead of the October 29 deadline.
