Monjasa, one of the world’s leading suppliers of marine fuels, has announced a significant move in its operations in the U.S. Gulf with the deployment of the Monjasa Thunder tanker from Panama to this key offshore region. This strategic move follows the positive reception the company received upon entering the market last year.

Monjasa Thunder: A Major Milestone for U.S. Gulf Offshore Operations

The Monjasa Thunder will now become the company’s first owned tanker operating in the U.S. Gulf, marking a historic moment in Monjasa’s efforts to strengthen its service delivery and operational control in the region.

“Monjasa Thunder becomes our first owned tanker in the U.S. and sets us apart as the only marine fuels supplier in the area to operate own tonnage, thereby allowing extended maritime quality and efficiency,” stated Anastasios Manalis, Trading Director for the Americas at Monjasa.

This move highlights Monjasa’s ongoing commitment to providing top-tier service and ensuring that customers benefit from higher levels of quality and efficiency in the competitive U.S. Gulf market.

A Shift Toward Greater Operational Control

As part of this expansion, Monjasa will conclude its charter agreement for the Stenheim (16,626 dwt) from Rederiet Stenersen AS next month. This decision reflects a strategic shift as the company increases its ownership stake in its fleet and supply chain. The Monjasa Thunder, with a deadweight of 19,991 tons, will replace the Stenheim, offering additional carrying capacity and greater operational flexibility. Built in 2009, Monjasa Thunder is a younger and more efficient vessel, making it the ideal choice to support Monjasa’s growing U.S. Gulf operations.

Key Upgrades and Certification Process for U.S. Operations

Monjasa Thunder will undergo drydocking in Kingston, Jamaica, for the necessary certifications and approvals to operate in U.S. waters. Monjasa is confident that the tanker will be fully operational by the end of April 2025, ready to meet the demand for marine fuels in this strategically important region.

This enhancement aligns with the company’s goal of reinforcing its presence in the U.S. Gulf, where it initially began offshore operations in late 2024. The company already operates three barges in the Houston Greater Area, primarily serving the tanker segment. With the addition of Monjasa Thunder, Monjasa is poised to further solidify its position as a leading marine fuel supplier in the U.S.

Monjasa’s Growing Global Footprint and Commitment to Excellence

Founded in Denmark in 2002, Monjasa has grown to become one of the world’s leading suppliers of marine fuels, with a fleet of 35 tankers and barges. The company employs over 600 maritime specialists and traders, operating in more than 800 ports worldwide. Monjasa’s dedication to quality is evident in its numerous ISO certifications (9001, 14001, 45001, and 50001), which ensure the highest standards of compliance, safety, and environmental responsibility.

In 2023, Monjasa delivered a total of 6.5 million tonnes of fuel globally, generating revenue of USD 4.4 billion. This performance solidifies its position at the forefront of the marine fuel supply industry, demonstrating the company’s ability to deliver high-quality products and services while maintaining a strong focus on sustainability.

A Bright Future Ahead: Monjasa’s Strategic Growth

With its first owned tanker in the U.S. Gulf and the continued expansion of its operations, Monjasa is well-positioned to meet the increasing demand for marine fuels in one of the world’s most competitive markets. As the company continues to build on its success, it remains committed to delivering exceptional value, high-quality fuels, and reliable service to customers worldwide.
