The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and MISC Berhad have formalized a groundbreaking partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at driving innovation, research, and development (R&D) within the maritime industry. The MoU was signed by Mr. David Foo, Assistant Chief Executive (Operations and Operations Technology), MPA, and Mr. Mohd Denny Mohd Isa, Vice President, MISC Marine. Witnessing the ceremony were Mr. Teo Eng Dih, Chief Executive of MPA, and Mr. Zahid Osman, President and Group Chief Executive Officer of MISC Berhad.

- Both parties will test and integrate cutting-edge digital solutions in marine operations to streamline processes and enhance safety and efficiency.
- The collaboration includes leveraging the Just-in-time Planning and Coordination platform under MPA’s digitalPort@SG™ to optimize tanker operations.
- Data Sharing and Cybersecurity
- The MoU facilitates robust data-sharing initiatives, including cloud-based services to enable e-clearances and e-certifications in the Port of Singapore and onboard Singapore-registered vessels.
- Trials of advanced cybersecurity solutions will be conducted in partnership with the Maritime Cyber Assurance and Operations Centre to safeguard maritime operations.
- Emerging Technologies
- The partnership will explore innovations such as artificial intelligence (AI), digital twins, and semi-autonomous vessel operations, aiming to revolutionize shipping practices and boost operational resilience.
- Talent Development
- MPA and MISC will collaborate on workforce development, focusing on training seafarers to operate alternative-fueled vessels and equipping shore-based professionals with skills in emerging technologies.
- Training initiatives will be supported by the Maritime Energy Training Facility to ensure a future-ready maritime workforce.
