A.P. Moller – Maersk is looking for an experienced Senior Fuel Trader to join its team in the Americas Region, with the role based in New York, USA. This exciting opportunity allows you to play a key part in the Maersk Oil Trading (MOT)’s fuel trading strategy, contributing to the supply, storage, purchase, and delivery of marine fuels to Maersk’s fleet.

Maersk Oil Trading (MOT)

Maersk Oil Trading (MOT) serves as the sourcing arm of Maersk, handling over 12 million metric tons of marine fuels annually, with Maersk itself being their primary customer (80%). Fuel is one of the largest operating expenses for Maersk’s fleet, and MOT focuses on optimizing these costs through blending, tolling, and barging strategies. The team is composed of over 150 professionals across key locations including New York, Singapore, Mumbai, Geneva, and Copenhagen.

Senior Fuel Trader Key Responsibilities:
  • Trade physical cargoes (FOB, DAP, CIF) of Low Sulphur, High Sulphur fuels, biofuels, methanol, and LNG within the Americas, with a focus on the U.S. market.
  • Develop and execute hedging and proprietary trading strategies.
  • Manage relationships with key suppliers and customers.
  • Contribute to fuel blending programs and optimize the fuel supply chain performance.
  • Oversee contract management and related administrative tasks.
  • Collaborate with Maersk’s teams across Europe and Asia to explore new business opportunities and further global expansion.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in physical oil trading, ideally fuel oil.
  • In-depth knowledge of marine fuel oil blending and bunker operations.
  • Familiarity with biofuels, methanol, or LNG is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of North and South American energy markets and their global dynamics.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and a self-starter who thrives in fast-paced, multicultural environments.
  • Analytical mindset with a 24/7 mentality, constantly looking to improve.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) with excellent interpersonal skills.
