LR OneOcean has announced Martin Penney as its new chief executive officer, succeeding Martin Taylor, who is set to retire in May. Penney, with over 25 years of experience in digital solutions spanning various industries including maritime, aviation, logistics, and supply chains, brings a wealth of expertise to his new role.

Prior to joining LR, Penney served as the CEO of SpecTec, a prominent marine software provider, where he played a pivotal role in modernizing flagship software products, leading to significant company growth. His career also includes executive commercial roles with Eniram, BMT, and Marorka, reflecting his global engagement and deep understanding of the sector.

Nick Brown, LR CEO, expressed his enthusiasm about Penney’s appointment, highlighting the pivotal role LR OneOcean plays in supporting maritime stakeholders amidst the industry’s digital transformation and energy transition. Brown commended Martin Taylor for his instrumental contribution to LR OneOcean’s rapid progress and expressed confidence in Penney’s ability to further drive success.

Penney himself shared his excitement about joining LR OneOcean, emphasizing the maritime industry’s current focus on achieving net-zero emissions and enhancing digital operations. He sees LR OneOcean as a central player in this transition, aiding shipping companies in streamlining operations and making impactful decisions.

LR’s acquisition of OneOcean in June 2022 marked a significant milestone, integrating its digital solution platform into LR’s portfolio. With over 22,000 ships currently utilizing LR OneOcean’s real-time navigation, performance, and compliance insights, the platform has become indispensable to the maritime sector.

Reflecting on Taylor’s legacy, who founded OneOcean in 2010 as a small company distributing paper charts and grew it into a leading maritime software platform with nearly 500 employees, LR OneOcean acknowledges his transformative leadership.

Martin Penney’s appointment signifies LR OneOcean’s commitment to innovation and continued growth, positioning itself as a key player in driving digital transformation across the maritime industry.
