In a grand ceremony held at Ningbo, China, Langh Ship celebrated the official naming of its cutting-edge vessel, Olivia. The vessel’s godmother, Miss Natalie Ella Olivia Toivola, had the honor of inaugurating the ship by cutting the ribbon and releasing the traditional champagne bottle. The event featured a mesmerizing traditional Chinese dragon dance and included welcoming speeches from Laura Langh-Lagerlöf and Wuhu Shipyard’s Marketing Director, Mr. Chen Anming. Attendees were also treated to a vessel tour following the ceremony.
Built at the Wuhu Shipyard in China, Olivia incorporates modern technology and advanced solutions designed to reduce emissions, aligning with Langh Ship’s commitment to zero-emission sea transports. Langh Tech, Langh Ship’s sister company, focuses on developing components and systems to minimize the environmental impact of shipping. Olivia is equipped with a BWMS (Ballast Water Management System), developed by Langh Tech, to prevent the spread of invasive species through ballast water.
The vessel is part of a series of three dedicated to Langh Ship’s long-standing trade of transporting steel coils from Finland to central Europe for Finnish stainless-steel producer Outokumpu. The return cargo consists of recycled stainless steel and other bulk products. Langh Ship’s in-house developed solutions, such as the introduction of cradle tween decks over 20 years ago, have significantly enhanced the safety of sea transport for steel coils, ensuring their secure and damage-free carriage.
Olivia’s sister vessel, Lovisa, delivered to Langh Ship in November, has already reached Europe and is now operating in Outokumpu’s liner service between Finland and the Netherlands.
