About the Role: Senior Fuel Trader
As a Senior Fuel Trader, you will play a critical role in sourcing, blending, and delivering fuels across the Americas, optimizing bunker fuel procurement for Maersk’s vast global fleet. You will work within Maersk Oil Trading, part of the Maersk Energy Markets and the broader Maersk Energy Transition team—supporting both cost-efficiency and sustainability goals.
In 2024, Maersk Oil Trading handled more than 12 million metric tons of marine fuel, primarily for Maersk vessels, with a continued focus on optimizing supply chains and incorporating alternative fuels like biofuels, LNG, and methanol.
Key Responsibilities: Senior Fuel Trader
- Trade physical cargoes of Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (LSFO), High Sulphur Fuel Oil (HSFO), biofuels, methanol, and LNG across the Americas.
- Manage FOB, CIF, and DAP transactions with a strong focus on the U.S. market.
- Develop and implement hedging strategies and proprietary trading models.
- Lead supplier and customer relationship management to ensure supply chain efficiency and value.
- Contribute to fuel blending operations and drive supply chain improvements.
- Collaborate across Maersk’s global offices in Europe and Asia to identify growth opportunities.
- Support contract management and ensure compliance with internal and external regulations.
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in physical oil trading—marine fuel expertise strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of fuel blending, bunker operations, and trading strategies.
- Exposure to or interest in alternative fuels (biofuels, methanol, LNG) is an advantage.
- Deep knowledge of the North and South American energy markets and their global context.
- Highly analytical, proactive, and capable of working in a 24/7 international trading environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and fluency in English (both written and spoken).
- Demonstrated experience in cross-cultural, fast-paced trading or logistics environments.
