GTT, a leader in containment systems for the liquefied gas industry, has announced a significant new order from the Chinese shipyard Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. to design a tank system for an advanced LNG bunkering vessel commissioned by Ondimar Transportes Marítimos, part of Spain’s Ibaizabal Group. This LNG bunkering vessel, which will be chartered by the French energy giant TotalEnergies, marks Ondimar’s first order utilizing GTT’s membrane containment system, representing a key step forward in innovative LNG technology for sustainable maritime operations.

With a total storage capacity of 18,600 m³, the vessel’s tanks will feature GTT’s state-of-the-art Mark III Flex membrane containment system. This advanced system ensures a daily Boil-Off rate of just 0.16% of the vessel’s volume, delivering high performance with a significant reduction in CO2 emissions, as compared to TotalEnergies’ current Gas Agility and Gas Vitality vessels. Measuring 135.9 meters in length and 24.5 meters in width, the LNG bunkering vessel is scheduled for delivery by the end of 2026.

Jean-Baptiste Choimet, CEO of GTT, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “We are very proud to receive this new order, which reflects our partners’ continued trust in our technology, and honored to be partnering with Ibaizabal Group for the first time on the LNG bunkering segment. This project highlights the versatility and efficiency of our Mark III Flex membrane system for LNG bunkering operations and supports the maritime industry’s transition to cleaner energy sources.”

Jorge Zickermann, CEO of Ibaizabal Group, also emphasized the importance of this project, stating, “Ibaizabal is honoured to be chosen to carry out this project as it falls within our strategy of decarbonizing the maritime industry, together with a leading company in the LNG field, while enhancing the already long-term relationship in shipping with TotalEnergies.”
