Fratelli Cosulich Group has reached a significant milestone with the steel cutting of its new methanol dual-fuelled bunker tanker. The ceremony took place on July 19, 2024, at Taizhou Maple Leaf Shipbuilding, marking the start of construction for this innovative vessel.

The 7,990 dwt IMO Type II chemical vessel, with a capacity of over 8,000 m³, is designed to transport both green methanol and biofuels. It will be equipped with three MAN GenSets specifically for methanol operation and features a diesel-electric propulsion system. An onboard battery storage system will enhance fuel efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Scheduled for delivery in late 2025, this vessel will be stationed at the Port of Singapore under a contract with global commodities trader Trafigura. This project marks the first of two vessels ordered from Taizhou Maple Leaf Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., with options for two additional units. The second vessel, also methanol-ready, is expected to join the fleet in the first half of 2026.

These newbuild tankers will offer versatility by transporting clean marine fuels mainly biofuels, and methanol, positioning Fratelli Cosulich Marine Energy strongly in the sustainable marine energy market.
