Everllence has successfully completed Factory Acceptance Testing for its ammonia-burning engine, the ME-LGIA. Set for debut on Eastern Pacific Shipping’s new VLACs in late 2026, this milestone marks a pivotal moment for zero-carbon maritime propulsion and industry safety standards.
Seoul, South Korea | April 20, 2026 – Everllence has successfully completed the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) of its pioneering ammonia-burning engine, marking a definitive step toward the commercialization of zero-carbon propulsion. The engine, developed in close collaboration with licensee Engine & Machinery of Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI-EMD), was rigorously tested in South Korea, confirming the readiness of the system for real-world maritime operations.
The dual-fuel unit, the Everllence B&W 6G60ME-LGIA (Liquid Gas Injection Ammonia), is destined for a vessel currently under construction at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries for Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS). The engine’s performance during the FAT, which included the integration of High-Pressure Selective Catalytic Reduction (HPSCR) technology, signals a breakthrough for the company’s low-carbon roadmap.
The Path to Ocean-Going Ammonia
The success of the FAT is not just a technological validation; it is a critical milestone for the broader shipping industry. The Very Large Ammonia Carriers (VLACs) currently under construction at HHI, with the first delivery slated for October 2026, will be the first in the world to be equipped with the 6G60ME-LGIA engines. These vessels are expected to position EPS at the vanguard of the zero-carbon transition.

The speedy execution of this FAT is just the latest step in what we anticipate will be a largely seamless journey from lab to ocean.”
Safety and Technical Maturity
Ammonia presents unique handling challenges compared to conventional fuels. Everllence has addressed these through the ME-LGIA’s design, which leverages the proven Diesel principle used in its existing methanol (ME-LGIM) and LPG (ME-LGIP) units.
To ensure the highest safety standards, the engine incorporates:
- Specialized Containment Systems: Engineered to handle the specific characteristics of ammonia.
- System Ventilation and Double-Walled Piping: Critical safety barriers integrated directly into the design.
- Advanced Sensor Networks: Providing real-time monitoring of engine health and fuel integrity.

The Road Ahead
The success of the FAT confirms that the market is ready for the transition. Everllence has confirmed that the full sales release for the ME-LGIA will feature a wide range of bore sizes, including G50, S50, S60, G60, G70, and G80, providing scalable options for both newbuilds and existing fleet retrofits.
