London, United Kingdom | January 07, 2026 – In a landmark move for the Asian maritime sector, Evergreen Marine, one of the world’s premier container shipping lines, has officially confirmed a fleetwide transition to Inmarsat NexusWave. This announcement marks Evergreen as the first Taiwanese operator to standardize its operations on this next-generation bonded connectivity service.
The rollout follows a series of successful sea trials and represents a significant leap in the company’s “Evergreen IT” modernization program. By moving away from traditional setups and upgrading its existing Fleet Xpress infrastructure, Evergreen is positioning its fleet at the forefront of the data-driven shipping era.

A “Home-Like” Experience for Seafarers
At the heart of the agreement is a deep commitment to crew welfare. In an industry where “connected confidence” is becoming a key factor in recruitment and retention, NexusWave provides:
- Unlimited Data: No caps on usage, allowing crew to stream, video call, and browse without restriction.
- Always-On Performance: Seamless internet access that feels like a shore-based experience, regardless of the vessel’s location.
- Dedicated Access: A secure, separate network for crew use ensures that personal internet traffic never interferes with critical ship operations.
Powering Operational Excellence
Beyond the crew’s quarters, the high-speed connectivity is designed to act as the backbone for Evergreen’s digital transformation. The platform will support several high-bandwidth initiatives:
- Real-Time Reefer Monitoring: Critical for a major container line, ensuring the integrity of temperature-sensitive cargo throughout the voyage.
- Predictive Analytics: Utilizing vast streams of data to optimize fuel consumption and predict maintenance needs before failures occur.
- Fleet-Wide IoT: Fully integrated Internet of Things (IoT) sensors to provide real-time visibility into every aspect of vessel performance.
The Technical Edge: “Secure-by-Design”
NexusWave is not just a single satellite link; it is a bonded, multi-network solution. It intelligently combines multiple networks in real-time, including:
- Global Xpress (GX) Ka-band
- Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) services
- Coastal LTE (where available)
- L-band for high-resiliency backup
This architecture is further bolstered by the ViaSat-3 ultra-high-capacity network. With more than 1,000 steerable spot beams, ViaSat-3 allows bandwidth to be dynamically shifted to high-traffic shipping lanes and ports, ensuring Evergreen vessels never experience a “dead zone.”
“Evergreen’s fleetwide adoption of Inmarsat NexusWave reflects our commitment to the welfare of our seafarers and operational excellence,” said a spokesperson for Evergreen Marine. “We are confident that this bonded, scalable solution will support our future growth and innovation.“
Gert-Jan Panken, Vice President Maritime at Viasat, added:
“Evergreen is setting a clear standard. By moving to NexusWave, they gain a single, managed connectivity solution backed by global coverage and secure infrastructure that scales with their ambitions.”
