EnviTec Biogas TT-Line bio-LNG Supply Deal

Germany | November 13, 2025 – In a significant step toward greener shipping, EnviTec Biogas AG and TT-Line have formalized a bio-LNG supply agreement following a successful trial bunkering of 40 tons of renewable fuel for TT-Line’s Ro-Pax ferry Peter Pan in Travemünde, Germany.

We are delighted to supply TT-Line’s combination passenger and vehicle ferries with our renewable bio-LNG,” said Markus Pille, Managing Director of EnviTec Energy GmbH & Co. KG. “This collaboration represents a concrete step toward sustainable maritime logistics.”

FuelEU Maritime Compliance

The agreement comes in the wake of the EU’s FuelEU Maritime regulation, which requires ships operating in EU waters with a gross tonnage over 5,000 to meet binding greenhouse gas intensity limits for onboard energy use. The regulation applies to commercial passenger and freight vessels regardless of flag and is set to remain in force until further notice.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) recently postponed the adoption of its global “Net Zero Framework,” which would have introduced a CO₂ price for shipping and outlined a roadmap to industry-wide climate neutrality by 2050.

TT-Line’s Green Ferry Strategy

Our Peter Pan, along with her sister ship Nils Holgersson, is the world’s largest LNG-powered Ro-Pax ferry,” said Torben Nikolay, CFO of TT-Line.These vessels are more than just compliance tools—they are a cornerstone of our sustainable fleet strategy. This year, we have already conducted extensive bio-LNG bunkerings via bunker barge, and we are now pleased to have found a German partner in EnviTec Biogas for flexible bunkering by truck.

TT-Line operates across the Baltic Sea, connecting German ports Travemünde and Rostock, Polish port Świnoujście, Lithuanian port Klaipėda, and the southern Swedish transport hubs of Trelleborg and Karlshamn. Annually, the company transports approximately 1 million passengers, 250,000 cars, and 500,000 freight units, making it a market leader in southern Swedish ferry traffic.

Bio-LNG Production and Sustainability Impact

EnviTec Biogas produces its bio-LNG from organic biomass waste, including slurry, dried poultry manure, food waste, and agricultural residues. The production process converts these materials into biogas, upgrades it to biomethane via the company’s EnviThan gas upgrading technology, and liquefies it into bio-LNG.

The bio-LNG produced by EnviTec Biogas reduces emissions by up to 100 percent compared to marine diesel and thus provides shipping companies with a strong starting point to meet FuelEU Maritime greenhouse gas targets,” said Markus Pille.

Germany’s largest integrated bio-LNG plant, BioEnergie Park Güstrow, serves as a primary source of EnviTec’s carbon-neutral fuel. Since 2023, the company has acted as an independent supplier of bio-LNG to the maritime sector.
