Envision Energy has launched the world’s first commercial green ammonia shipment from its Chifeng facility in Inner Mongolia to LOTTE Fine Chemical in South Korea. Powered by Physical AI and 100% renewable energy, the project sets a global benchmark for zero-carbon fuel production and international maritime logistics in 2026.
China | February 28, 2026 – In a milestone that signals the full maturity of the zero-carbon fuel value chain, Envision Energy has officially launched the world’s first global commercial shipment of green ammonia. The cargo is currently in transit from Envision’s Chifeng facility in Inner Mongolia to LOTTE Fine Chemical in South Korea, marking the transition of green ammonia from a theoretical alternative to a globally traded commodity.
The Chifeng Breakthrough: Scaling to 1.5M Tons
The shipment originates from the world’s largest green hydrogen-ammonia production base. While many global projects are still awaiting Final Investment Decisions (FID), Envision’s Chifeng facility is already operational at scale:
- Current Output: 320,000 tons per annum (tpa).
- 2028 Target: Expansion to 1.5 million tpa, positioning the hub as a global benchmark for clean industrial clusters.
- Certification: The cargo is fully compliant with ISCC EU, ISCC PLUS, and RFNBO standards, ensuring it meets the rigorous “green molecule” requirements for international markets.
The “Physical AI” Engine
At the heart of the operation is Envision’s proprietary Physical AI system. This technology solves the primary hurdle of green fuel production: the intermittency of renewables. The AI intelligently orchestrates 100% renewable wind and solar resources to ensure a stable, continuous power supply for hydrogen synthesis, even in the off-grid conditions of the Gobi Desert.
“This vessel carries more than just ammonia; it carries our commitment to a sustainable future,” said Yimin Lou, Senior Vice President at Envision Energy. “We have proven that the green ammonia value chain is no longer just a blueprint, it is a reality.”
Destination: South Korea’s Clean Energy Hub
The cargo is destined for LOTTE Fine Chemical, a pivotal partner in South Korea’s strategic ambition to establish the region’s premier clean ammonia hub. As Asia’s largest ammonia distributor, LOTTE is leveraging this shipment to transition from traditional chemical distribution to zero-carbon energy logistics.
“The world’s first commercial introduction of green ammonia is drawing global attention beyond the company and national level.” said Seung Won Chung CEO of LOTTE Fine Chemical, “This milestone holds historic significance as the starting point for establishing the green hydrogen and ammonia value chain, considered a leading solution for the transition to carbon-free energy in response to the climate crisis.”
He further noted that the company will continue to cooperate with global industry leaders like Envision to solidify its position as Asia’s No. 1 clean ammonia hub, providing a scalable roadmap for the decarbonization of power generation and maritime fuels.
