Deanna MacDonald, Co-Founder & CEO of BunkerTrace, has been elected to the Board of the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA). With a remarkable background in blockchain technology and sustainability, MacDonald brings a wealth of expertise to her new role.
Expressing her enthusiasm for the opportunity, MacDonald stated, “I’m honored to join the IBIA Board. The bunker industry plays a pivotal role in shaping sustainable practices within the maritime sector, and I look forward to contributing my expertise to drive positive change.”
MacDonald’s career highlights her commitment to leveraging technology for environmental impact. As Co-Founder & CEO of BunkerTrace, she leads innovative initiatives to tag and trace sustainable marine fuels, enhancing transparency and compliance in the industry.
Her achievements and engagements span various prestigious platforms, including recognition as one of the Top 10 Women in Logistics and Top 10 Women in Technology in Denmark. MacDonald’s accolades also include winning the MIT Solve Coastal Communities and Lloyd’s List Supply Chain Innovation Award.
With a Master’s Degree in International Business and Politics from Copenhagen Business School and a background in public policy analysis from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), MacDonald is well-equipped to navigate complex regulatory landscapes and drive sustainable solutions.

She will join the IBIA Board on 1 April 2024.

The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) serves as the global voice of the bunker industry, encompassing all sectors and the entire industry value chain. It represents stakeholders in discussions with other industry associations, national and international policymakers, and legislators, including the International Maritime Organization (IMO), where IBIA holds consultative NGO status. IBIA promotes industry welfare through education, professional conduct, and standard development.
Since its inception in October 1992, IBIA’s membership has expanded to include a wide array of stakeholders, such as ship owners, bunker suppliers, oil majors, traders, brokers, and more. With offices in the UK, South Africa, and Singapore, IBIA provides an international platform to address industry concerns and engage with policymakers and other stakeholders on a global scale.
