Oslo, Norway | October 27, 2025 – Chemical tanker operator Chemship B.V. has entered into a major partnership with Manta Marine Technologies (MMT) to significantly reduce its fleet’s fuel consumption and emissions through the deployment of Manta’s advanced propulsion optimisation and performance monitoring systems.
Under the new contract, MMT will supply and install its FuelOpt system across nine vessels in Chemship’s fleet, following the success of an initial installation on the Chemical Challenger. The collaboration marks a major step forward in Chemship’s ongoing commitment to operational efficiency and sustainable shipping.

Proven Results Drive Fleetwide Adoption
The decision to roll out FuelOpt follows a successful trial aboard Chemical Challenger, where the automated system demonstrated tangible gains in engine efficiency and fuel savings — particularly when integrated with the vessel’s wind-assisted propulsion (WAP) technology.
The installation programme will begin with two Japanese-built multigrade vessels by the end of 2025, with the remaining ships to follow throughout 2026.
“We are proud to partner with a forward-thinking operator like Chemship as they lead the way in sustainable chemical transportation,” said Richard Engelhart Bjercke, Chief Commercial Officer at Manta Marine Technologies. “This contract underscores the critical role of propulsion control in achieving net-zero targets. FuelOpt and Fleet Analytics deliver guaranteed performance improvements by seamlessly blending automation with human expertise.”
FuelOpt: Real-Time Propulsion Intelligence
At the heart of the deal lies FuelOpt, Manta’s flagship propulsion optimisation technology. The system automatically adjusts a vessel’s propulsion power in real time, based on predefined parameters such as target speed or fuel consumption limits. By continuously ensuring that the main engine operates at the most efficient output, FuelOpt eliminates the need for manual propulsion adjustments and ensures consistent, auditable performance improvements.
Unlike traditional optimisation tools, FuelOpt is fuel-agnostic — capable of operating effectively with both conventional and alternative fuels, as well as hybrid propulsion solutions. This flexibility makes it an attractive choice for shipowners seeking to future-proof their fleets in an era of tightening environmental regulations and growing adoption of wind-assisted propulsion systems.
When integrated with wind-assisted propulsion, such as on Chemical Challenger, FuelOpt automatically converts wind-gained thrust into real-time fuel savings through precise and automated adjustments — delivering continuous optimisation beyond what can be achieved manually.
Fleet Analytics: Turning Data Into Decarbonisation
In addition to FuelOpt, Chemship’s vessels will be equipped with Manta’s Fleet Analytics platform — a powerful cloud-based monitoring and benchmarking tool that aggregates high-frequency performance data from onboard systems.
Fleet Analytics provides shipowners and operators with real-time insights, performance benchmarking across vessels, and automated reporting aligned with EU-MRV, EU-ETS, FuelEU Maritime, IMO-DCS, and CII requirements. The platform’s timeline-based interface reduces administrative workload and supports data-driven decision-making, helping operators to track, report, and optimise emissions performance across their fleets.
“After decades of relying on manually entered, error-prone consumption figures, we finally have everything digitally available on a single platform,” said Michiel Marelis, Operations Director at Chemship. “This enables us to eliminate variables and accurately measure the efficiency of our sustainable investments. We now have full control over our fuel consumption and are achieving optimal savings from our Ventofoils, thanks to the Manta FuelOpt package.”
A Step Toward Net-Zero Chemical Transport
Chemship operates a fleet of stainless-steel chemical tankers designed to transport a wide range of liquid bulk cargoes — including specialised chemicals, vegetable oils, acids, lube oils, aromatics, and clean petroleum products. Its routes primarily span the East Mediterranean–Northwest Europe and East Mediterranean–USA corridors.
The company’s decision to adopt digital optimisation and monitoring solutions underscores its strategy to minimise greenhouse gas emissions while enhancing fleet reliability and cost-efficiency. For Manta Marine Technologies, it reinforces its position as a key enabler of maritime decarbonisation through advanced digital and automation solutions.
