Bromma | June 2, 2026 – Swedish maritime battery technology provider Echandia has launched Echandia Core, a new lithium-titanium-oxide (LTO) battery system designed to reduce the cost and footprint of vessel electrification projects while maintaining the safety, durability and operational performance associated with LTO technology.
Described by the company as its most significant product launch to date, Echandia Core has been developed to address one of the key barriers to wider adoption of LTO batteries in the maritime sector: high upfront investment costs.
According to Echandia, the new system delivers a 30% reduction in upfront cost and a 30% smaller installation footprint compared with the company’s previous battery platform. The system is intended for both fully electric and hybrid vessel applications, including propulsion, spinning reserve, peak shaving, backup power and load-leveling operations.
Addressing Cost Challenges in Marine Battery Adoption
While LTO battery technology is widely recognized for its long service life, rapid charging capabilities and minimal performance degradation, the higher initial investment has often limited deployment across certain vessel segments.
Echandia believes the introduction of Echandia Core will improve the economic case for shipowners and operators seeking to transition toward lower-emission operations.

Expanding the Company’s Battery Portfolio
The new platform complements rather than replaces Echandia’s existing battery systems, Echandia Ultra and Echandia Robust, which continue to serve applications requiring the highest levels of performance and energy density.
According to the company, Echandia Core broadens the product portfolio by providing a more cost-efficient alternative while retaining the key operational advantages of LTO chemistry.
“Echandia Core does not replace our existing platforms, Echandia Ultra and Echandia Robust. It complements our portfolio and expands the market,” said Felix Backgård, Head of Technical Sales at Echandia. “Some vessels still need the highest-performance system we can build. Others need a more cost-efficient way to access the safety, lifetime and reliability of LTO. Echandia Core gives them that choice.”

The launch comes as shipowners increasingly evaluate battery-electric and hybrid technologies to meet tightening environmental regulations and corporate decarbonization targets.
Battery systems capable of delivering long operational life, fast charging and reliable performance are becoming increasingly important across ferries, workboats, offshore support vessels and other segments pursuing reduced emissions and lower fuel consumption.
