The role is open to candidates based in London, United Kingdom, or Rotterdam, Netherlands, offering a unique opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of marine fuel supply across the ARA region and wider European markets.

This position sits within the Commercial department and is designed for a commercially driven professional with proven bunker trading expertise, strong market instincts, and the ambition to contribute to a global energy transition strategy.

About Petroineos Trading Limited

Petroineos is a joint venture between PetroChina International (London) Company Limited and INEOS, established in 2011. The company is one of Europe’s leading international integrated energy trading businesses, operating across crude oil, refined products, and marine fuels.

Petroineos Trading manages both third-party trading activities and the supply of crude oil to Petroineos and PetroChina refineries, as well as the marketing and distribution of refined products. The company benefits from strong vertical integration, leveraging refining, logistics, and global trading capabilities.

Petroineos operates two strategically located refineries:

  • Grangemouth Refinery (Scotland): Processing approximately 150,000 barrels per day, supplying fuels to Scotland, Northern England, and Northern Ireland, with direct access to North Sea crude and gas.
  • Lavéra Refinery (France): Processing around 210,000 barrels per day, located on the Mediterranean coast near Marseille, supplying fuels into France, Switzerland, and Southern Germany.

As part of the PetroChina global network, Petroineos benefits from access to refineries, storage, blending, and logistics assets across Europe, China, Singapore, Houston, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean, offering unmatched scale, reliability, and reach.

The Role: Bunker Trader

As a Bunker Trader at Petroineos Trading Limited, you will be responsible for driving commercial growth and profitability within the marine fuels market, with a particular focus on the Amsterdam–Rotterdam–Antwerp (ARA) region.

The role involves trading conventional and alternative marine fuels, developing sales strategies, managing market and credit risk, and coordinating closely with internal operational and back-office teams to ensure efficient execution and delivery.

This is a front-office, revenue-generating position suited to a commercially astute professional who thrives in a fast-paced trading environment and is ready to make an immediate impact.

Strategic Vision: 2026 and Beyond

PetroChina and Petroineos view the global shipping industry as being at a critical inflection point driven by decarbonisation and regulatory change. The company’s bunker trading strategy is aligned with this transition:

  • Pioneering the Green Transition: Petroineos is rapidly expanding its portfolio of sustainable marine fuels, including ISCC-certified biofuels and LNG. By 2026, the company aims to significantly increase the share of non-conventional fuels within its total traded volumes.
  • Strengthening ARA Market Presence: Building on its successful launch of physical supply operations in the ARA region, Petroineos is targeting top-tier supplier status by market share over the next 18 months, supported by advanced storage, blending, and logistics infrastructure.
  • Integrated Global Advantage: The role leverages PetroChina’s fully integrated global value chain, offering supply security from owned refineries and an extensive logistics network that few competitors can match.
  • Digital Leadership: Petroineos is investing heavily in trading technology, digital risk management tools, and electronic bunker delivery notes (eBDNs) to enhance efficiency, transparency, and operational control.
