Gothenburg, Sweden | September 9, 2025 – In a strategic move to expand global access to flexible LNG infrastructure, Stena Bulk has announced the appointment of Seasystems AS as its exclusive worldwide partner for delivering its jettyless LNG transfer technologies. This cooperation agreement gives Seasystems the exclusive rights to market, sell, and deliver Stena Bulk’s proprietary Jettyless Floating Terminal (JFT) and Extended FSU/FSRU Mooring (EFM) systems, while Stena Bulk retains full ownership of the patented technologies.
Developed in-house by Stena Bulk, these technologies eliminate the need for traditional fixed jetties, allowing LNG to be stored and transferred offshore or nearshore with minimal infrastructure. Designed for rapid deployment, even in challenging environments, the jettyless systems offer significant advantages in cost-efficiency, scalability, and safety.

Game-Changing LNG Infrastructure: The Technologies
Jettyless Floating Terminal (JFT)
A self-contained, floating unit equipped with all necessary equipment for LNG offloading. The JFT system enables LNG transfer operations from Floating Storage Units (FSUs), Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRUs), or LNG carriers without requiring fixed jetty infrastructure.
Extended FSU/FSRU Mooring (EFM)
An advanced mooring system designed to anchor floating LNG units safely and securely in offshore or nearshore locations. The EFM system allows safe and stable operations in a wide range of marine environments and supports ship-to-ship (STS) transfer configurations.
Both technologies are plug-and-play, enabling project developers and LNG importers to rapidly establish LNG handling capabilities in regions lacking conventional port infrastructure.
Expanding Global Access to LNG with Jettyless Infrastructure
The cooperation between Stena Bulk and Seasystems significantly increases the scalability and global availability of jettyless LNG solutions at a time when flexible infrastructure is in high demand. Seasystems, with its engineering and offshore systems integration experience, will bring Stena Bulk’s innovations to new markets, delivering turnkey LNG solutions to customers worldwide.
“This agreement represents a key step in Stena Bulk’s strategy to bring our LNG technologies to market at scale,” said Göran Hermansson, General Manager LNG WW at Stena Bulk. “Our patented jettyless solutions, including the EFM and JFT systems, showcase how LNG can be delivered by providing operators with safe, reliable, and cost-effective infrastructure to the global energy market. Partnering with Seasystems enhances our ability to deliver these innovations globally, delivering greater value for customers and the wider energy industry.”
Supporting the LNG Transition with Lower-Cost, Flexible Infrastructure
Jettyless LNG systems offer tangible advantages across multiple strategic fronts:
- Lower CAPEX: Avoids the high costs of building permanent jetties and onshore infrastructure
- Rapid Deployment: Floating terminals can be fabricated, tested, and deployed within shorter project timelines
- Flexible Siting: Can be installed in remote or difficult-to-access regions, including areas with limited port development
- Operational Safety: Built-in systems are designed to safely manage LNG transfer, hose handling, and vessel interface, even in rough environments
- Scalable for Multiple Fuels: May be adaptable to emerging low-carbon fuels like ammonia or synthetic methane, as energy transition evolves
Implications for the Global Bunkering and LNG Supply Chain
The ability to quickly and safely establish LNG import/export capacity has direct implications for:
- Emerging LNG markets seeking to reduce their reliance on traditional fossil fuels
- Bunker suppliers looking to deliver LNG to small-scale or hard-to-reach customers
- Floating storage projects that require fast and safe offloading without extensive port development
- Policy and infrastructure planners aiming to accelerate LNG uptake with lower environmental impact
By removing one of the largest financial and logistical barriers to LNG distribution — onshore infrastructure — Stena Bulk’s jettyless systems position themselves as an enabler of LNG’s continued role as a transition fuel in the global decarbonization effort.
