CMA CGM has officially christened its latest additions to the fleet, the CMA CGM Sintra and CMA CGM Altamira, marking the eighth and ninth vessels in a series of ten next-generation, 2,000 TEU LNG-powered vessels.
This significant event took place in the presence of Déhia Djahnine, Senior Counsel at CMA CGM, who served as the vessels’ godmother. A distinguished graduate of La Sorbonne and Cornell University, Déhia joined CMA CGM in 2021 and has since been instrumental in the acquisition of new vessels, currently focusing on maritime financing.
The CMA CGM Sintra set sail from Busan on October 26, 2024, embarking on its journey to Europe via the EURAF3 service. Meanwhile, the CMA CGM Altamira is scheduled to arrive in Rotterdam on December 10, 2024, as part of the FAL3 service. Following their arrivals, both vessels will be deployed on short sea routes across Europe and the Mediterranean.
The use of LNG as a marine fuel represents a significant advancement in the maritime industry’s efforts towards decarbonization. LNG emits up to 20% less CO2 compared to conventional marine fuels, while virtually eliminating sulfur oxide (SOx) emissions and significantly reducing nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. This transition to cleaner fuels is a crucial step in meeting international regulations aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable shipping practices.
CMA CGM wishes smooth sailing to the captains and their crews as they embark on this new chapter!
