Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, a key player within the Wärtsilä technology group, has further solidified its standing as a leader in advanced cargo handling systems with a recent contract for four new Very Large Ammonia Carrier (VLAC) vessels. The contract, awarded by the Korean shipyard Hanwha Ocean Co., was finalized in the third quarter of 2024 and involves the construction of VLACs with a capacity of 93,000 cubic meters for Greek owner Naftomar.
Wärtsilä’s cargo handling systems are recognized for their modern and proven technology, a culmination of decades of pioneering work in gas solutions. The systems prioritize safety and efficiency while also contributing to reduced operating costs and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, enhancing the vessels’ Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI).
