Located strategically in the Port of Prince Rupert, the facility is designed to cater to the increasing need for efficient fuel handling and storage solutions throughout Western Canada and North America. Wolverine Terminals will offer a suite of services, including transloading, marine fuel storage, and distribution, which will significantly enhance the supply chain efficiency for essential fuel products such as marine-grade diesel and very low sulfur fuel oil (VLSFO).

Port of Prince Rupert in Brief
The Port of Prince Rupert is notably one of the only major global ports that has not offered marine fueling services for cargo ships, a situation that has compelled vessels to either carry sufficient fuel for round trips or divert to alternative West Coast ports, such as Vancouver, for refueling. This added fuel burden can displace potential cargo capacity and increase shipping costs, posing challenges for economic efficiency.
In 2020, the Port welcomed 537 vessel visits, a number projected to grow significantly. Establishing local fuel services will be essential in supporting this anticipated growth. The Port accommodates a diverse array of vessels, including cruise ships, cargo ships, ferries, fishing vessels, and private boats, with the scope of the new project focusing particularly on fueling cargo ships and ferries.
Despite its lack of marine fueling services, the Port possesses numerous strategic advantages conducive to future growth. It is the closest North American port to Asia and boasts the deepest natural harbor on the continent. Furthermore, the Port has direct access to a rail network that connects to markets across North America, with substantial capacity for increasing traffic volumes.
Designated as a National Harbour in 1972, the Port of Prince Rupert operates under the jurisdiction of the Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA). Established under the Canada Marine Act, the PRPA is tasked with facilitating and expanding the movement of cargo and passengers within the Port, thereby supporting Canada’s trade activities. The PRPA will be the primary regulatory body responsible for reviewing the proposed project, ensuring compliance with all rules and regulations regarding the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible management of shipping traffic. This assessment will include evaluating potential physical, biological, or human (social) impacts and determining necessary measures to mitigate any adverse effects.
