VPS, a global leader in maritime decarbonization services, has announced a strategic partnership with Veracity by DNV, a premier maritime emissions cloud platform. This collaboration aims to streamline Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) processes for offshore vessels, enhancing data accuracy, reducing administrative burdens, and preparing operators for upcoming regulatory requirements.
The partnership integrates VPS’s Maress system with Veracity’s data platform, ensuring the seamless transfer of validated and checked operational MRV data. This integration connects data to DNV’s real-time verification services, simplifying compliance for fleet operators and ensuring high-quality emissions reporting. The collaboration will also prepare operators for the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), which will include vessels over 5,000 GT from 2027.
Sveinung Økland, Operations Manager at North Sea Shipping, highlighted the benefits of the integration “We collect all consumption data for our fleet in Maress and are excited that the validated and checked quality data in Maress automatically will flow to DNV for efficient verification. This reduces the admin related to MRV significantly for our staff.”
Mikkel Skou, Executive Director at Veracity, added “The Partner Agreement and integration of Veracity and VPS’ Maress is a step in our joint mission to foster a more data-driven and connected maritime industry. As verified emissions data becomes central to both regulatory compliance and contractual obligations, this collaboration simplifies the reporting process, helping fleet operators like North Sea Shipping share crucial data with confidence across the value chain.”
Preparing for New MRV Regulations
The partnership is particularly timely as new MRV regulations take effect on January 1, 2025, covering offshore vessels over 400 GT entering EU/EEA ports. VPS’s Maress system includes an MRV Reporting Module with advanced data quality algorithms that minimize verification cycles and accelerate compliance. Verified data is automatically transferred to DNV’s Veracity platform, ready for upload to the EU’s Thetis MRV database.
Jan Wilhelmsson, COO Digital & Decarbonisation at VPS, emphasized the significance of the partnership “This partnership represents a great step toward efficient and accurate MRV reporting for the offshore industry. By combining VPS’s expertise in data-driven decarbonization with DNV’s trusted verification platform, we are equipping offshore vessel operators with the tools to streamline compliance and accelerate their sustainability goals.”
Broad Industry Impact
More than 600 offshore vessels, including PSVs, AHTSs, OCVs, and others, utilize the Maress platform for fuel and emissions monitoring. During VPS’s recent summer campaign, participating vessels achieved up to 28% emissions savings using Maress dashboards to track and collaborate on decarbonization initiatives. The platform facilitates coordination among vessel owners, charters, crew, and operators, advancing sustainability goals in the offshore and offshore wind sectors.
