Rotterdam, Netherlands – July 14, 2025 – Verde Marine Energy (VME), a prominent marine fuel physical supplier and global bunker trading firm operating in the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) region, has expanded its Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO) fleet with the addition of the bunker barge MTS Virage. This strategic enhancement further strengthens the company’s VLSFO physical supply operations across key ARA ports.

The MTS Virage, freshly painted in VME’s signature green and white colours, represents another step forward in the company’s strategy to provide independent, high-quality, and reliable marine energy solutions. While the vessel is expected to undergo a name change soon, its operational goal remains unchanged: to support growing demand for compliant marine fuels across the region.

Joe Tierney, Head of Trading at Verde Marine Energy B.V., commented on the expansion: “Another new addition to our fleet! We are gradually expanding and growing thanks to our customer support. We add the barge MTS Virage to assist and supply in the ports of Antwerp and Flushing after our successful start with VLSFO in Rotterdam.

Strengthening VLSFO Capabilities Across ARA Region

The arrival of MTS Virage follows the successful launch of MTS Malia, which began VLSFO supply operations in March 2025. This latest fleet expansion reflects Verde Marine Energy’s focused approach to meeting the rising demand for compliant fuels, particularly in the busy ports of Antwerp and Flushing, while maintaining flexibility and service excellence.

MFM Implementation: A Step Toward Full Compliance

In anticipation of upcoming regulations, all VME barges, including MTS Virage, are being fitted with Mass In a proactive measure addressing upcoming industry standards, Tierney also confirmed the company’s commitment to Mass Flow Meter (MFM) implementation.

Joe Tierney emphasized the company’s proactive approach to regulatory compliance and customer service: “All barges in our fleet will be fitted with MFM during the Summer to comply with the upcoming MFM regulations,” he shared. “We will keep you posted on all future developments!”

This readiness aligns with mandates from key bunkering ports like Antwerp-Bruges and Rotterdam, which require the use of certified MFM systems for bunker vessels from January 1, 2026, aiming to enhance transparency and accuracy in fuel deliveries. The planned installation of MFM technology on all barges underscores Verde’s dedication to fuel delivery accuracy, transparency, and meeting the highest industry standards.

Verde Marine Energy continues its strategy of expanding its port, product, and supply method portfolio, driven by a strong focus on performance and customer support. The company has also previously introduced marine distillate fuel supply via road tankers across the ARA region, providing additional flexibility for vessels and inland operators.
