Hong Kong/Singapore – July 2025 – The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas), has successfully fulfilled its commitment to supply Singapore-based Golden Island Pte Ltd with 5,000 tonnes of ISCC EU-certified green methanol. This milestone delivery, earmarked for critical bunkering operations and green fuel trials in Singapore, marks the completion of their previously announced agreement and underscores Towngas’s growing capabilities in the green maritime fuel logistics sector.
Delivered through a strategic collaboration with Mitsubishi Corporation, the green methanol was transported to Tianjin Vopak’s terminal at Tianjin Port—an emerging hub in the Asia-Pacific’s sustainable fuel supply chain. From there, it was loaded onto Golden Island’s dedicated bunker vessel, Golden Antares.
The ISCC EU-certified green methanol offers a carbon intensity reduction of more than 75% compared to conventional Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO), reinforcing its potential in accelerating the shipping industry’s decarbonization goals.
Mr. Sham Man-fai, Chief Operating Officer – Green Fuels & Chemicals at Towngas, emphasized the importance of the achievement:
“This successful delivery to Golden Island not only demonstrates our ability to fulfill green methanol commitments with precision and reliability but also validates our long-term investments in sustainable fuel production. Our operations are gaining momentum across the region, and we remain committed to supporting the shipping industry’s transition to low-carbon energy solutions.”
Mr. Tomohiro Yamano, General Manager of the Marine Fuel Department at Golden Island, highlighted the strategic significance of the trial:
“This loading represents a cornerstone in our journey to deliver low-carbon marine fuel solutions. It is the result of close collaboration with Towngas and demonstrates our shared commitment to driving green fuel adoption across the bunkering industry.”
Ms. Liu Xiaomei, General Manager of Tianjin Vopak, reflected on the broader regional impact:
“Tianjin Vopak’s support for this delivery showcases the growing strength of the Asia-Pacific green fuel supply chain—from production to bunkering. We are proud to be building a resilient green energy logistics network, starting from Tianjin and extending across the region.”
This landmark delivery showcases the operational readiness of Towngas’s green methanol production facility in Inner Mongolia. Using proprietary technology, the plant converts agricultural and forestry waste, along with scrap tyres, into high-quality green methanol. Towngas is the first enterprise on the Chinese mainland to achieve both ISCC EU and ISCC PLUS certification, demonstrating compliance with global sustainability and traceability standards.
