Seaboard completed PortMiami’s first LNG bunkering operation

Seaboard completed the PortMiami’s first LNG bunkering operation, M/V Seaboard Blue was the first cargo ship in PortMiami’s history to be bunkered using liquified natural gas (LNG) as fuel this past weekend. Shell filled the Seaboard Blue with LNG before its inaugural southbound voyage to Honduras and Guatemala using its Q4000 bunker barge.

The 1,000 TEU M/V Seaboard Blue, formerly known as the M/V Elbblue, had a retrofitted in 2017 to enable LNG and diesel fuel operation. The ship was the first container ship in the world to converted to LNG propulsion from conventional diesel. The Seaboard Blue joined the Seaboard Marine’s North Central America service this past Sunday and for the first time made PortMiami its home.
