QatarEnergy Announces LNG Production 2030

QatarEnergy, the world leader in the production of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), the cleaner, safer, more flexible, and reliable source of energy, and an integral partner in the global energy transition. has unveiled its ambitious plans for a new LNG expansion project named the “North Field West” project. This initiative aims to significantly enhance the State of Qatar’s LNG production capacity to 142 million tons per annum (MTPA) by the end of the decade, marking an impressive 85% increase from current levels.

The announcement was made by H.E. Mr. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs and the President and CEO of QatarEnergy, during a press conference held at QatarEnergy’s Headquarters in Doha.

H.E. Minister Al-Kaabi revealed that extensive appraisal drilling and testing have confirmed the extension of productive layers of Qatar’s massive North Field towards the west, paving the way for the development of a new LNG production project in Ras Laffan.

He stated, “QatarEnergy has focused its efforts and attention on determining how far west the North Field’s productive layers extend I am pleased today to announce that these great efforts have confirmed the ability to produce significant additional quantities of gas from this new sector.”

Furthermore, H.E. Minister Al-Kaabi disclosed the discovery of substantial additional gas reserves in the North Field, estimating around 240 trillion cubic feet. This discovery elevates Qatar’s gas reserves to over 2,000 trillion cubic feet, along with increased reserves of condensates, liquefied petroleum gas, ethane, and helium.

Highlighting the significance of these findings, H.E. Minister Al-Kaabi emphasized that they would propel Qatar’s gas industry to unprecedented heights, enabling the commencement of a new LNG project with a production capacity of approximately 16 MTPA. This expansion will elevate Qatar’s total LNG production to approximately 142 MTPA, alongside an overall hydrocarbon production exceeding 7.25 million barrels of oil equivalent per day.

QatarEnergy is set to initiate the essential engineering works for the North Field West project promptly, ensuring adherence to the approved schedule. H.E. Minister Al-Kaabi expressed gratitude to QatarEnergy’s dedicated team and underscored their commitment to advancing the energy sector in collaboration with partners.
