Senior Bunker Trader – Role Overview: What You’ll Do

As a Senior Bunker Trader, you will be responsible for the purchase and sale of marine fuel and associated products. You’ll foster profitable, long-term relationships with a portfolio of clients, while maintaining a risk-aware perspective with respect to credit risk and payment performance. This role is ideal for someone with previous trading experience, particularly in the bunker sector or maritime industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively market to a portfolio of new and existing customers, building and strengthening relationships to increase inquiries and sales of Peninsula’s products and services.
  • Communicate openly with fellow traders to optimize the flow of market and customer intelligence across the company. Support colleagues in regional offices to handle inbound inquiries effectively.
  • Analyze and interpret market conditions, understand counterparty needs, provide product and price information, negotiate deals, and manage orders and general customer queries throughout the sales process.
  • Manage credit risk by ensuring timely payment follow-up, minimizing claims costs, and assessing counterparty financial strength in collaboration with the Credit Team.
  • Drive business growth by leveraging Peninsula’s global network, identifying sales opportunities, and expanding the company’s portfolio.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Essential:

  • Business-level proficiency in English is required.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills.
  • Persuasive and influential nature, with strong negotiation abilities.
  • Ability to work well under time pressure.
  • Highly organized and motivated.
  • Strong computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office and CRM systems.
  • Good understanding of trading patterns.
  • Solid knowledge of the bunker industry, shipping market, and fuel specifications.
  • Collaborative team player within structured frameworks.
  • High customer orientation, attention to detail, and the ability to address customer queries, solve problems, and exceed expectations.

Desirable:

  • Proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
