Position Available: Supply Trader
Location: Houston, Texas, USA

Supply Trader Role

As a Supply Trader at Peninsula, you will engage in the purchase and sale of marine fuel and associated products, fostering profitable and longstanding relationships with a portfolio of counterparties. You will maintain a risk-aware perspective regarding credit risk and payment performance. This role requires previous trading experience, ideally within the bunker sector.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Establish and build relationships with new and existing suppliers to increase strike rate and margin within the region.
  • Actively handle inbound inquiries from other regional offices within the Peninsula Group.
  • Communicate with other traders internally to maximize the efficient flow of market and customer intelligence.
  • Understand, analyze, and interpret market conditions, identifying opportunities for competitive advantage.
  • Develop and implement effective short and long-term trading strategies in collaboration with the Regional Head and Book Management functions.
  • Participate in internal and external marketing activities as required.
  • Proactively control risks, ensuring supplier vetting and approval, minimizing the cost of claims, and considering counterparty financial strength.
  • Stay updated on relevant shipping and oil sector developments through regular reading of trade publications.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required:

  • Business-level English language skills essential; knowledge of local language beneficial.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills.
  • Highly effective negotiator with persuasive and influential nature.
  • Ability to work under time pressure and remain well-organized and motivated.
  • High level of computer literacy, including MS Office package and CRM systems.
  • Good trading pattern and knowledge of bunker industry, shipping market, and fuel specifications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team within defined frames.
  • High level of customer orientation, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
