Singapore | January 15, 2026 – In a move that signals a significant shift toward asset ownership and operational excellence, Gulf Marine has officially commissioned its first owned, purpose-built lubricant supply barge, the Reliable I. The 56-meter vessel was inaugurated during a prestigious naming ceremony at Marina Keppel Bay, marking a strategic milestone in the company’s Singaporean operations.

The vessel was named by its Godmother, Lisa Holum, Chief Operating Officer Asia at OSM Thome, symbolizing a shared industry vision for sustainability and reliability in the maritime supply chain.

Gulf Marine Singapore Bunker Vessel
Engineered for Efficiency and Compliance

Unlike traditional chartered vessels, the Reliable I was built from the keel up specifically for the complexities of marine lubricant delivery. The vessel enters service as the shipping industry faces tightening environmental standards, featuring a high-specification design that prioritizes both speed and a reduced carbon footprint.

Key technical specifications include:

  • Capacity: 1,058 KL total cargo capacity, optimized for high-volume lubricant transfers.
  • Environmental Compliance: Equipped with an IMO Tier III-compliant Mitsubishi high-speed main engine featuring a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system to minimize NOx emissions.
  • Smart Logistics: Integrated with advanced loading systems and real-time inventory management to ensure precision in delivery.
Strengthening the Singapore Hub

The Reliable I joins Gulf Marine’s existing fleet of six chartered barges in Singapore, the world’s premier bunkering hub. By transitioning to an owned-asset model, Gulf Marine gains greater control over scheduling and service quality.

Addressing guests at the ceremony, Frank Olsen, CEO of Gulf Marine, emphasized the strategic importance of the newbuild:

Reliable I is a major step forward: our first owned, purpose-built barge. It enables faster, cleaner, and more consistent deliveries, and it underlines the promise we make to every customer: on-time, in-full, wherever your vessels operate.”

The project was a collaborative effort involving Hunan Xiangchuan Shipyard, which handled the construction, and Maxwell Ship Management, which served as technical consultants during the design phase and will now oversee barge operations and crew management.
