Avin International Joins Ahti Pool

HELSINKI, Finland | 22 December 2025 – Avin International, a premier Greek tanker operator with a heritage spanning over six decades, has officially joined Ahti Pool, the industry’s leading independent compliance pooling solution for FuelEU Maritime.

The partnership represents a significant step forward in the digital and environmental management of tanker fleets, allowing Avin to leverage Ahti Pool’s “market-grade” compliance mechanism to optimize its decarbonization roadmap.

Harmonizing Tradition with Future-Ready Compliance

Avin International, headquartered in Maroussi, Greece, currently manages a sophisticated fleet of approximately 35 oil and chemical tankers with a total capacity exceeding 2.5 million tonnes. While the company is rooted in the 1960s, its strategy is firmly focused on the future. Avin notably pioneered the construction of the world’s first ammonia-ready Suezmax vessel, signaling its intent to lead the energy transition.

By joining Ahti Pool, Avin complements its physical technical investments with a sophisticated regulatory strategy. The pool allows members to aggregate the greenhouse gas (GHG) intensity of their fleets, ensuring that advanced, low-emission vessels can balance the compliance requirements of the broader fleet under the new FuelEU Maritime mandate.

Joining Ahti Pool is a strategic step that strengthens our decarbonisation agenda and supports the next phase of our energy-transition journey,” said Captain Pavlos Xagoraris, CEO of Avin International. “The Pool complements our own initiatives with a structured, market-aligned mechanism for managing FuelEU Maritime requirements across the fleet, enhancing our ability to deliver on our long-term environmental commitments.

The Power of the Pool

Ahti Pool has rapidly become the central hub for FuelEU compliance, managing hundreds of vessels from Tier-1 operators including Van Weelde Group, Bore, Spliethoff, Stenersen, and Neste. With over €100 million in emissions exposure currently under administration, the pool provides a robust buffer against the financial volatility of regulatory penalties.

Risto Juhani Kariranta, CEO of Ahti Pool, welcomed the Greek operator: “Avin’s strong track record, investment in future-ready tonnage, and commitment to operational excellence make them an ideal partner. Their entry strengthens the pool’s depth and diversity and enhances our ability to optimise compliance at scale for all Pool members.”
