Gasum, a prominent player in the Nordic gas sector and energy market, has achieved a significant milestone in sustainable shipping by supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG) to CMA CGM‘s fleet of four new Car Carriers. The initial vessel, named CMA CGM Indianapolis, recently completed its maiden voyage in Northern Europe, culminating in its first LNG bunkering operation in Bremerhaven.
The inauguration of CMA CGM Indianapolis heralds a new era of eco-friendly maritime transport. Measuring an impressive 199.90 meters in length and 38 meters in width, this vessel has a capacity to accommodate approximately 7,000 cars across 12 decks. Notably, its propulsion system enables speeds of up to 20 knots, ensuring efficient and timely transportation of goods.
Gasum’s provision of LNG to CMA CGM Indianapolis underscores its commitment to sustainable shipping practices. By opting for LNG as a marine fuel source, CMA CGM demonstrates its dedication to reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmental stewardship in the maritime industry.
This collaborative effort between Gasum and CMA CGM is poised to make significant strides in decarbonizing maritime transport. With three more vessels scheduled to join the fleet throughout 2024, each named after renowned racetracks, the partnership aims to further enhance efficiency and cleanliness in maritime operations.
Gasum’s expertise in LNG bunkering and its focus on reducing carbon footprints align seamlessly with CMA CGM’s commitment to decarbonization. Together, the two companies are driving positive change in the industry, paving the way for a more sustainable future both on land and at sea.
Beyond its contributions to maritime transport, Gasum remains dedicated to advancing cleaner energy solutions across various sectors. With a workforce of around 350 employees spread across Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Germany, Gasum continues to expand its reach and impact in promoting a carbon-neutral future.
Founded on principles of innovation and sustainability, Gasum’s acquisition of Swedish Biogas International in 2017 solidified its position as a leader in biogas production in the Nordic countries. Additionally, its acquisition of the energy market services business of Enegia in 2018 has enabled Gasum to broaden its product offerings and provide enhanced services to its customers.
As a state-owned entity in Finland, Gasum remains steadfast in its commitment to driving positive change and fostering sustainable practices. With its partnerships and initiatives, Gasum is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping a cleaner and more sustainable future for generations to come.
