Augsburg | June 15, 2026 – In a significant stride forward for the maritime industry’s energy transition, German propulsion giant Everllence has secured the world’s first commercial order for its highly anticipated B&W ME-GI (Gas Injection) Mk10.7 dual-fuel methane engine.
The breakthrough order will provide the propulsion backbone for a new series of deep-sea car-carrier vessels commissioned by Norwegian shipowner Global Car Carriers (GCC).
The contract spans four 6S60 ME-GI Mk10.7 engines, which will be built under license by CSSC Engine Co., Ltd. in Qingdao, China. They are slated for installation aboard four next-generation, 8,600 car equivalent unit (CEU) Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTCs) currently under construction at the China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Nanjing.
Evolution of the ME-GI Platform
The Mk10.7 generation represents the latest iterative evolution of Everllence’s high-pressure, two-stroke dual-fuel portfolio. By operating on the Diesel-cycle combustion principle, the ME-GI platform injects high-pressure gas directly into the cylinder at the end of the compression stroke, ignited by a small pilot injection of fuel oil.
This mechanical approach inherently addresses one of the most pressing regulatory and environmental bottlenecks facing the LNG-fueled fleet: methane slip (unburnt methane escaping into the atmosphere).
