Everllence Surpasses 2,000 Dual-Fuel engine Orders in Landmark COSCO Agreement Scaling Global Decarbonization through Advanced Two-Stroke Propulsion Technology

Denmark | February 5, 2026 – In a move that underscores the maritime industry’s accelerating pivot toward decarbonization, COSCO Shipping Lines Co. Ltd. has placed a landmark order that pushes Everllence’s two-stroke, dual-fuel portfolio past the 2,000-unit milestone.

The historic order involves the selection of the Everllence B&W 8G95ME-GI Mk. 10.5 main engine to power a new fleet of ultra-large container vessels. This achievement marks a decade of rapid evolution for dual-fuel technology, evolving from a niche alternative to the dominant choice for global shipowners.

The Vessel Specifications: A Giant Leap in Efficiency

The milestone engine is part of a massive 12-unit order destined for a series of 18,000 TEU container vessels. These ships are currently under construction at the prestigious Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) Co., Ltd. in China.

Key technical highlights of the engine configuration include:

  • Engine Model: B&W 8G95ME-GI Mk. 10.5
  • Emission Control: Integrated EcoEGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system.
  • Fuel Versatility: Capability for seamless switching between traditional fuel oils and liquefied natural gas (LNG/Methane).

The EcoEGR system is particularly critical for this series, as it optimizes combustion while significantly reducing nitrogen oxide NOx emissions, ensuring compliance with the strictest international environmental tiers.

A Century of Partnership

The timing of the deal holds symbolic weight. Bjarne Foldager, Head of Two-Stroke Business at Everllence, noted the cultural significance of the timing in relation to the Asian market.

It’s very appropriate that this milestone was reached on the cusp of the Year of the Fire Horse, a particularly auspicious year in the Chinese calendar. China has been a very important market for us for over a century, just as COSCO is a valued customer,”

Foldager further emphasized that the dual-fuel engines strategy has been the cornerstone of Everllence’s market leadership.

Our dual-fuel engines are showcases for environmentally friendly, reliable propulsion technology… On the path to net-zero, the marine industry needs willing partners and our thanks go to COSCO for its custom and friendship.”

The Rise of Fuel-Flexibility

According to Everllence, over 50% of its current order book (measured in engine power) is now comprised of dual-fuel units. This shift is driven by a combination of regulatory pressure and “strategic hedging” against volatile fuel markets.

Christian Ludwig, Head of Global Sales & Promotion, Two-Stroke Business at Everllence, highlighted the momentum gained over the last twelve months:

2025 saw a strong order intake for our two-stroke, dual-fuel engines, especially the ME-GI. Increasingly, decarbonisation and a general desire for fuel-flexibility as a strategic hedge are pushing their adoption. We have now gathered a decade’s worth of invaluable, dual-fuel service experience and operational data with which to further improve the technology.”

Ludwig also pointed to the digitalization of these power plants. Modern units are increasingly digitally-connected, allowing Everllence’s shore-based engineers to monitor data in real time and provide immediate recommendations to optimize performance and reduce fuel consumption.

The Portfolio: A Spectrum of Alternatives

The 2,000-engine cumulative total represents a diverse range of alternative fuel capabilities within the Everllence stable. The company’s “ME-” series now covers almost every viable future fuel:

Engine TypePrimary Alternative Fuel
ME-GIMethane (LNG)
ME-LGIMMethanol
ME-GIEEthane
ME-LGIPLPG
ME-LGIAAmmonia (Recently Announced)

As COSCO’s 18,000 TEU giants prepare to hit the water, this 2,000th order stands as a testament to the industry’s belief that the “voyage to a low-emission fleet” is no longer a distant goal, but a present-day reality.
