Erik Thun order new vessels methanol ready tankers

The Erik Thun Group is delighted to announce the addition of four new vessels to its fleet including two methanol-ready coastal tankers. Shipsveerf Ferus Smit B.V. in the Netherlands will build two multi-purpose dry cargo vessels and two coastal tankers, bringing the Shipveerf Ferus Smit B.V. orderbook to a total of fourteen vessels and our current orderbook to fifteen vessels. The contracts cover two multi-purpose dry cargo vessels with 5100 mts dwt and Ice class 1B, designed for Lake Vänern in Sweden, completing a series of six vessels on order.

Thun Tankers BV, a part of the Erik Thun Group, has placed orders for two additional methanol-ready “Resource Efficiency Class” coastal tankers, expanding the R-Class series to a total of eight vessels. Thun Resource, the first vessel in the R-Class series, is already launched and ready for delivery. Alongside the second ordered intermediate product tanker in the “Vinga-series,” our fleet renewal program includes a total of fifteen vessels to be delivered continuously from 2024 to 2027.

“We are proud to lead the way in maritime innovation by introducing both the R-class series and the Lake Vanern Max; vessels that set a new standard in efficiency, performance, and sustainability, for example equipped with a battery pack and ready for shore electricity connection. These series exemplify our unwavering commitment to sustainable shipping and pave the way for a greener and more prosperous future,” says Henrik Källsson, Deputy Managing Director at Erik Thun AB.

“Our long experience in the business, paired with our vision to be a sustainable Swedish partner over generations, gives us a good basis for continual improvement and innovative design, providing our customers with sustainable and smart solutions,” adds Johan Källsson, Managing Director at Erik Thun AB.
