In line with India’s maritime decarbonization goals, Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, has officially signed an MoU with Bapu’s Shipping (Jamnagar) Pvt. Ltd. (BSJPL) to provide bunker barge services for bio-methanol bunkering at Kandla Port, located along the Gujarat coast. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in India’s transition to sustainable marine fuel solutions for the maritime industry and aligns with the country’s broader green energy goals.
The MoU was formalized in a signing ceremony held on February 8, 2025, which was graced by key officials, including Shri Sushil Kumar Singh, IRSME, Chairman of Deendayal Port Authority, and Shri V. Raveendra Reddy, Chief Engineer at DPA. Shri BhupendraSinh Jadeja, Director of BSJPL, signed the agreement on behalf of his company, accompanied by senior representatives from both organizations.
A Step Towards Sustainable Maritime Operations
Shri Sushil Kumar Singh, IRSME, Chairman of DPA, addressed the occasion by emphasizing the port’s vision of becoming a leader in adopting green energy solutions for the maritime industry. “Deendayal Port Authority is committed to adopting innovative and sustainable bunkering solutions. This MoU marks a step forward in our journey towards eco-friendly port operations, in line with India’s maritime decarbonization goals and the Net Zero target set by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi,” he stated.
The agreement reflects the Government of India’s vision for establishing green ports and promoting sustainable shipping solutions. It also supports the global push to reduce carbon emissions in the maritime sector by transitioning to alternative fuels such as bio-methanol, which has a lower carbon footprint compared to conventional marine fuels.
Shri BhupendraSinh Jadeja, Director at Bapu’s Shipping, underscored the importance of this collaboration, noting that bio-methanol is a promising alternative fuel with great potential to contribute to green shipping initiatives in India. “We are proud to partner with DPA in facilitating the adoption of bio-methanol bunkering, which will not only support India’s green shipping agenda but also pave the way for sustainable fuel infrastructure at Indian ports,” he said.
