DNV has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Seatrium, a leading engineering solutions provider for the offshore and marine industries, to collaborate on strategic projects in engineering, technology, and product innovation.
Collaboration to Address Key Industry Challenges
The MoU outlines a comprehensive framework for cooperation between the two organizations. DNV will provide Seatrium with expert guidance on emerging market and regulatory trends, cutting-edge technologies, and best practices for environmental, safety, and quality standards. The collaboration will focus on optimizing processes and enhancing efficiency in newbuilding, conversion, and retrofit projects.
Both parties also aim to explore joint opportunities with other organizations and research institutes to develop innovative solutions addressing critical challenges in the maritime and offshore sectors.
Advancing Technological and Digital Innovations
The partnership will capitalize on DNV and Seatrium’s combined strengths to drive advancements in several critical areas, including:
- Floating Offshore Wind Turbines: Developing innovative designs to support the renewable energy transition.
- Hydrogen and Ammonia Platforms: Promoting green fuel production technologies.
- Next-Generation FPSOs: Enhancing the design and operation of Floating Production Storage and Offloading units.
DNV’s expertise in cybersecurity and digital integration will also play a pivotal role in enhancing Seatrium’s digital services portfolio, ensuring robust and secure solutions for the marine and offshore industries.

Recognition for Innovative Floating Wind Designs
During the signing ceremony, DNV awarded Approval in Principle (AiP) certificates to Seatrium for two innovative floating offshore wind turbine designs:
- FWSS (Floating Wind Semi-Submersible): A floating column foundation tailored for 15MW turbines, optimized for efficient fabrication and cost-effectiveness.
- SWACH (Small Waterplane Area Cylindrical Hull): A cylindrical foundation designed for ease of fabrication and handling, supporting 15MW turbines.
These designs align with DNV’s updated offshore rules (DNV-RU-OU-0512) and cater to the growing demand for floating wind solutions, underscoring their importance in advancing the energy transition.
