Arkas Bunker, a leading provider of marine fuel solutions in Türkiye, has achieved a significant milestone by supplying its biofuel, Bio24F, to the YM Inventive, a vessel operated by Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation, one of the world’s leading shipping companies. This marks Arkas Bunker’s first biofuel supply to a shipowner beyond its own Arkas Line fleet, underscoring its commitment to sustainable marine operations.

The biofuel supply took place at Kumport, with Arkas Bunker’s barge captain presenting a commemorative plaque to the captain of the YM Inventive, symbolizing the importance of this collaboration.

Driving Sustainability in the Maritime Industry

This development comes as global maritime regulations push for cleaner and greener energy alternatives. Fossil fuels continue to dominate the industry but mounting environmental concerns and policies such as the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) decarbonization targets and the European Union’s carbon taxes are accelerating the adoption of alternative fuels.

In Türkiye, the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) has paved the way for the use of biofuels in marine transport, providing new opportunities for sustainability-focused initiatives. Arkas Bunker, as the first company in the country to receive the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) for marine fuels, is leading the charge in this transformation.

Introducing Bio24F: A Game-Changer in Biofuels

The launch of Arkas Bunker’s Bio24F represents a breakthrough in sustainable fuel solutions for the maritime sector. Designed to align with the company’s long-term sustainability goals, Bio24F has already demonstrated its benefits on Arkas Line vessels. Now, the fuel is available to other shipowners, supporting their efforts to achieve lower emissions and cleaner seas.

Seckin Gul, General Manager of Arkas Bunker, expressed pride in this milestone: “We are extremely proud and happy to have carried out Türkiye’s first biofuel supply, both for our country and for our company. This milestone has allowed us to experience the benefits of biofuel on our own vessels, and we have collectively witnessed the highly positive features of our fuel. While we use our biofuel, Bio24F, on Arkas Line vessels, we also offer it to other shipowners. We stand alongside all shipowners in their sustainability journeys, providing tailored solutions for their vessels to achieve cleaner seas.”
