The partnership focuses on developing an Offshore Ammonia Cracking Solution technology, leveraging the combined expertise of all involved parties. HD KSOE will take charge of designing the ammonia supply system and its integration into the overall process. Amogy will contribute its cutting-edge ammonia-cracking technology, which has the potential to revolutionize the production of hydrogen from ammonia. Seoul National University will provide vital insights into process design and simulation, while POSCO Holdings will optimize the proprietary cracking process for marine applications. ABS will oversee the classification and certification process, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

This initiative aligns with South Korea’s broader strategy to develop a robust ammonia market, which is central to its carbon reduction goals. Ammonia is seen as a critical hydrogen carrier, providing a more cost-effective and logistically efficient alternative to liquefied hydrogen. With energy density 2.7 times greater than hydrogen, ammonia offers significant advantages for the maritime industry, which is increasingly looking for viable carbon-free fuel alternatives.
