Helsinki | January 15, 2026 – Technology group Wärtsilä has signed a 10-year Lifecycle Agreement with MOL Global Ship Management, a Singapore-based ship management company fully owned by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL). The agreement will provide enhanced operational support, reduced engine downtime, and increased maintenance flexibility for a fleet of 12 newly built LNG carriers.
The agreement covers vessels delivered during 2024 and 2025, with contracts for three vessels booked by Wärtsilä in Q3 2025 and the remaining vessels recorded in the first half of 2025.

Supporting Reliability in a Challenging LNG Market
LNG carrier owners and operators face increasing pressure to ensure safe and efficient cargo transport while navigating market volatility, financial uncertainty, growing vessel complexity, and tightening environmental regulations. These challenges are driving demand for greater operational efficiency, reliability, and sustainability across the global LNG shipping sector.
Under the new agreement, MOL Global Ship Management will benefit from long-term operational assurance, cost predictability, and optimized maintenance planning, ensuring high fleet availability and consistent performance.
“Wärtsilä’s Lifecycle Agreement will optimise our vessel operations and maintenance, ensuring that we can maximise uptime and performance. In addition, this agreement will play a crucial role in supporting the sustainable operations of our fleet by helping us reduce emissions and operate more efficiently,” said Namit Mathur, Director at MOL Global Ship Management Pte. Ltd.
Advanced Digital Maintenance and Remote Support
The agreement integrates Wärtsilä’s Dynamic Maintenance Planning solution, combined with 24/7 remote operational support and proactive contract management. This approach enables flexible maintenance scheduling, extended service intervals, reduced spare parts consumption, and guaranteed availability of Wärtsilä service engineers.
In addition, Wärtsilä’s Expert Insight predictive maintenance solution, powered by real-time vessel data, allows potential issues to be identified and addressed before they impact operations, significantly reducing unplanned downtime and avoiding costly repairs.
Reliable field services throughout the contract period will ensure that MOL’s LNG carriers operate safely, efficiently, and sustainably across their entire lifecycle.
Alignment with Decarbonisation Goals
Wärtsilä highlighted that Lifecycle Agreements play a key role in supporting shipowners’ operational reliability and environmental performance, particularly as the shipping industry advances toward decarbonisation.
“Lifecycle agreements provide shipowners, like MOL, with operational reliability, cost predictability, and optimised maintenance. These benefits support consistently high service standards and enable fulfilment of customer commitments, while also contributing to reduced operational emissions in line with the industry’s decarbonisation goals,” said Henrik Wilhelms, Director, Agreement Sales – Wärtsilä Marine.
Engine Configuration and Emissions Control
The 12 LNG carriers are equipped with a highly efficient Wärtsilä propulsion configuration, consisting of:
- Two 6-cylinder and two 8-cylinder Wärtsilä 34DF dual-fuel engines per vessel
- Four Wärtsilä Gas Valve Units (GVU)
- Catalytic converters to further reduce emission levels
This configuration enables efficient LNG operation while meeting current and future emissions requirements, supporting both operational performance and regulatory compliance.
Long-Standing Strategic Partnership
MOL is a long-standing strategic customer of Wärtsilä, with multiple vessels across its fleet already supported by Wärtsilä agreements. The new Lifecycle Agreement further strengthens the collaboration between the two companies and reinforces Wärtsilä’s role as a key partner in LNG carrier operations and lifecycle management.
