KPI OceanConnect, a leading global provider of marine energy solutions, has marked a significant milestone in the maritime industry with the successful delivery of B24 biofuel to WAN HAI Lines’ container vessel, WAN HAI 510, on the 04th of October in Singapore. This pivotal delivery, facilitated by SK Energy International as the physical bunker supplier, represents WAN HAI Lines’ first venture into biofuel bunkering, reflecting the growing demand for alternative fuels in the shipping sector.

The ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) certified biofuel is designed to aid WAN HAI Lines in achieving its sustainable development objectives, offering greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions of up to 20% compared to conventional fuel oil. This initial delivery is a crucial step in WAN HAI Lines’s efforts to implement a customized alternative fuels strategy, developed in close partnership with KPI OceanConnect.

KPI OceanConnect has established a strong track record in facilitating biofuel deliveries across more than 100 ports globally, working collaboratively with customers and bunker suppliers to aggregate demand and provide biofuels that meet specific standards. The anticipated demand for biofuel bunkering is projected to more than double by 2025, driven by the emissions reduction pathways that biofuels present, thereby enabling compliance with increasingly stringent environmental regulations.

Jesper Sørensen, Head of Alternative Fuels and Carbon Markets at KPI OceanConnect, expressed pride in this partnership, stating, “WAN HAI Lines has been a long-standing partner of KPI OceanConnect, and we are proud to have facilitated its first biofuel delivery. With our robust expertise in biofuel bunkering and global reach, we are able to support clients in progressing their alternative fuel strategy.”

Jesper Sørensen emphasized the importance of collaboration, noting, “Partnerships will lead the way forward to reaching net zero targets, bringing much-needed expertise, knowledge, and confidence in decision-making. At KPI OceanConnect, we are committed to playing an active role in aggregating demand and connecting bunker suppliers with buyers to build up the global low-carbon fuel infrastructure and meet growing demand.”

In a statement reflecting their commitment to sustainability, WAN HAI Lines remarked, “We are very proud to announce our first biofuel supply in collaboration with KPI OceanConnect at the port of Singapore. Adopting biofuels is a key strategy in our efforts to accelerate the transition towards decarbonisation and achieve our company’s emission reduction goals. We extend our gratitude to KPI OceanConnect for their professionalism in fulfilling our needs. WAN HAI Lines remains committed to collaborating with our partners and stakeholders to drive continuous progress in our sustainability journey.”

As the maritime industry continues to navigate the challenges of decarbonisation, this collaboration between KPI OceanConnect and WAN HAI Lines stands as a testament to the potential of alternative fuels in promoting a sustainable future for shipping.
